So well, here we are now. November 4th… US election day … the day that omniously always lay in the future … waaaay off … and now it’s here. Took long enough as well, if you ask me.
It is funny though how this day really did feel historic to me. (yeah … the day itself is over now
it’s dark outside). Maybe it just was the intense media coverage and that I was greeted by the whole topic this morning when I turned on the TV to watch the news. But then, I have been following this election for … quite some time. Since it all began really as I regularly watch CNN I also got the american perspective of it all.
I do wonder though why this election is so popular in Europe. It gets way more media coverage here in Germany than the Austrian election for example that took place not so long ago and had an interesting outcome as well. And … those are our neighbours and on other occasions hardly even treated as “foreigners”. But the US is a different story. Popular culture is shaped by the US in so many ways that we think we know the United States of America. After all, we see it on TV every day. Well.. and we hate Bush
so I guess it’s a feeling of it can only get better and hopefully they’ll get it right this time…
I have been watching with great interest and also will do so tonight (as long as I can keep my eyes open
) because I’m interested in the USA … so we’ll see how historic this day will be and who is gonna be the next President over there.
